How do you do?
I see you've met my... Oops! Wrong reference, sorry!
*coughs discreetly*
So... I happen to have addictions: mint sweets, cheeses, books, music... and making historical costumes (that started when I was dancing, and I had to make my own costumes - because that was waaaaaay cheaper that way).
As it happens, Sense and Sensibility (the 1995 version) is my favourite film, and for the past two days (and I can't even remember how it started!), I've been looking at photos and blogs and pages and documentaries and anything I could find really about Regency dresses.
It turns out that I could only find two free patterns on the Internet, and so, I've decided that if I manage to make the dress of my dreams, I'm going to share the pattern here.
My plan is to use what I've found on the Internet, what I know about the history of fashion and... what I can snatch from the Sense and Sensibility film.
Basically, I'll be trying to make something like this:
Now... I just have to:
- work on the pattern
- go shop for some material and ribbons (that I can afford)
- find time to work on it
- deal with ignore my Muggle relatives as they'll disparage my wish to wear a Regency dress today (basically... So, what???!)
Wish me luck?

Oh I like it , I have a pattern and the material ready to go but no darn time! my life is too hectic I did treat myself to an empire line dress from gudrun :-)http://www.gudrunsjoden.com/uk/start-pages-shared/2014/classics/11-discover-the-new-spring-collection which is fab and similar to the one you show, neat bodice (not as fitted as the one in the picture) looser arms and gathered top skirts!
I do hope you get a picture or two as well (on a hanger if your photophobic :-) )
Interesting link! Thanks!!!
Time is sooooooooooo barmy, isn't it? ô.O
I was planning to go slow on that one, but the addiction's demanding to be fed. I've started working on a miniature paper pattern that I assembled, and I think I'm going to combine five patterns (three strictly Regency that I located on the net, and two more recent, but with similar features for the top part and the sleeves). Once that's done, I don't know how I'm going to share the pattern here, but I will find a way... ;)
I shall post pictures (of the sewing, and of lil' me in it: I can hide like a pro behind a fan <- lousy Regency pun). ;)
I'll make some underthings, too (good thing my nan was a corset maker when she was a teen).
If I don't make a mess of this, I'll share everything.
Have fun, Sis. :-)
I hope you can avoid the troublesome Muggles. I think the dress will look fantastic, and that you should enjoy wearing it whenever and wherever you want - I'm sure you'll look great in it.
Thanks, Bro! The Muggles shall be avoided by keeping the dress in my flat until it's finished and I can model it outside... :)
